 not the best elevated food bowlsOct 28, 2009

I had this model for my great danes. The tray on top gathered a lot of pet hair and food crumbs and needed to be cleaned often. The grossest part was under the bowls. Slobbery water will spill under the water bowl and you will have to clean it daily or it will get really gross. Don't fill the legs with water (it says to use either water or sand) because the legs are easy to come off and you don't want the water to spill on the floor. I guess you wouldn't want to spill sand either :) It's not a big issue until you need to move it. Overall, I'd recommend getting the heavy wire ones with the rubber stoppers on the feet. That has worked the best for my dogs.

I purchased this feeder for my humongous male St. Bernard and we both love it. It is easy to clean, just the right height, and stable enough for him to eat without the feeder toppling or moving.
It was, however, a bit difficult to assemble. I had trouble pushing the legs into the slots. I tried the vaseline as suggested, but ended up removing two of the red stoppers on the legs. After that, they fit snugly without any difficulty. I did not fill the legs with water or sand as suggested. I decided to place the feeder on a braided rug and it is quite stable with the empty legs.
You will have to clean it daily with a damp cloth or paper towel, but it is easier than cleaning caked on food off the floor below an open feeder. The closed bottom for the bowls is much more sanitary.
Bottom line, it is well-priced, stable, sturdy, easy to clean, and Hoover, the dog, loves eating from it. He has completely stopped belching air and coughing up part of his food, so it is much healthier for him, too.
I highly recommend this feeder for owners of giant breed dogs.

I have had a Big Dog Feeder for over five years now. I actually purchased this Big Dog Feeder for my niece. Her Lab puppy stayed with us for a few days and liked my dog's feeder over his little bowls. At the time he could barely reach the dishes.
The Big Dog Feeder is easy to clean and it's nice to have the bowls up off the floor. You can sweep the area better. Like I said I've had mine for years and it barely looks worn.

This Big Dog Feeder has been a godsend for my Doberman, who recently lost a leg to bone cancer. She was having such a hard time bending down to est and drink. Now, with the dog feeder, the food is at just the right height, so that she can eat without bending down. It was hard to find the right height for a big dog. I am so glad that this one is available!

I'm very happy with this product. It's well made and just the right height for my greyhound. We put kitty litter in the legs to weigh it down and it doesn't move. I would highly recommend.
